Author Biographies

Lizzy Komen

Lizzy Komen is working as a project manager at the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision R&D Department. She is mainly working on externally (FP7, ICT-PSP) funded research projects that focus on providing access to digital heritage and the creative re-use of these materials through projects Europeana Creative and Europeana Space. She overlooks the development of the Pilots developed in Europeana Creative, which demonstrate creative re-use of Europeana in games, education, tourism, and social networks. Besides EU projects she is also involved in the Dutch Digital Humanities research infrastructure project CLARIAH and the recently launched Sound and Vision Labs platform. Komen holds an MA in Cultural Studies from the University of Amsterdam and has previously worked at Europeana Foundation managing projects, including Europeana Awareness and Europeana v2.0.

Andrew Kitchen

Andrew Kitchen is a director of Ramulus, a business consultancy in the United Kingdom. During the Europeana Creative project, he has overseen and linked all incubation activities the project implements, whilst providing his own expertise to the programme's participants. Andrew's experience hails from a varied career that started in defence when he worked for Lockheed Martin as a software engineer, after which he moved to the education sector leading digital strategy programmes at a national level and subsequently to the cultural and creative sector. Entrepreneurship is one of his underlying passions, which he champions and encourages others to consider, having successfully run his own retail business for a number of years.
